Holistic Medicine

Dr. Shafaie is an advocate of the regular use of natural vitamins and minerals on a daily basis, in preparation for surgery and care after surgery. Below are recommendations and not official medical advice as every person is different and may have certain allergies or different needs. Make sure you speak with Dr. Shafaie or your regular physician before using any of these vitamins and minerals listed below.

Before and After Surgery
  • Vitamin C - 1000mgs twice a day; Time Release.
  • Iron FE - 1 Tablet (25-325mgs), twice a day. Take this with Vitamin C ONLY if you are anemic or going to have liposuction.
  • B-12 - 1000 mcg, one a day.
  • Beta Carotene - Use as directed.
  • Selenium - 200 mcg, one a day.
  • Protein Powder - Once a day, take 1 tablespoon in an 8 oz glass of skin milk. Take 2-4 weeks before surgery. During the time while taking this powder, you need to drink plenty of water.
  • Calcium, Magnesium, & Zinc - 1 Tablet three times a day.
After Surgery Only
  • Bromelain (reduced pain & swelling) - Take once a day on an empty stomach.
  • Arnica tablets (controls bruising) - Start after surgery and continue for 10 days after. Should be placed under the tongue and allow it to dissolve. Should be used 15 minutes before OR 15 minutes after eating/drinking.
